Stephen Miller has been in the news again. He is a racist bigot and he’s OK with that. He has been given a platform from which he puts forth disgusting ideas that are used to influence weak-minded people. Stephen Miller is a symptom of what is wrong with this administration. We need to find a cure for his sickness once and for all.

Fighting Bad Policy

Recently I posted about a Tweet/Post Miller made regarding Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Christmas. That post served to highlight that there is something fundamentally wrong with the mind of Stephen miller and people who think as he does.

Under Miller’s advice, the Trump administration has turned to bad, inhumane policies to try and enforce their bigoted claims. We see federal officers (ICE and CBP, primarily) using unnecessarily violent force against immigrants, primarily Latinos and other people with brown skin (like me) on a daily basis.

This administration has thrown out protections guaranteed by our constitution to all persons, including immigrants, documented or otherwise. The administration has repeatedly lied about who they are targeting, detaining, and arresting. They are often and repeatedly arresting US citizens, legal permanent residents (green card holders), and people in the green card application process.

So much for “doing things the right way.”

But wait, there’s more.

Immigration is not the only area where this administration has defiled the principles espoused by the Founding Fathers. The Supreme Court has given Trump himself permission to act in defiance of Congress and even themselves. Trump has been given carte blanche in all official matters that might otherwise be considered criminal in nature.

With this “free pass” in hand, Trump is going “hog wild” in his effort to be a king. His efforts are seen in a variety of subject areas. Here are some.

Drug War

The administration is using active duty military forces to violate international law and execute, without any evidence or trial, people accused of being drug traffickers. Trump wants Venezuelan president Maduro replaced and states that he is leader of a drug cartel (there is no evidence of that). Meanwhile, Trump has pardoned Juan Orlando Hernández, former president of Honduras, who was convicted of drug trafficking by a US court. That prosecution was carried out by Trump loyalist Emil Bove. Bove is finding out that loyalty only goes one way with Trump.

Not all involved are onboard. US Navy Admiral Alvin Holsey has resigned, presumably so he does not have to bear responsibility for the illegal strikes taking place. In his place, Vice Admiral Frank Bradley has accepted responsibility for a highly dubious action that killed two men, seemingly in defiance of the established laws of warfare.

East Wing / JFK Center for the Arts / FIFA

Trump has destroyed the East Wing of the White House to build a ball room that wasn’t needed. He did it without consulting any of the normal committees, commissions, and groups which advise on architecture in Washington. Trump has commission an architect to build what will likely look “looks like the banquet hall of a third-rate casino.” In defense his sense of propiety, the architect has resigned.

JFK Center for the Arts

In a similar affront to decency, Trump has now renamed the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts to add his name before JFK’s. Trump fired, then installed new, JFK Center board members with himself as the president of the board. The new board then voted to rename the center by prepending Trump’s name. Never mind that only Congress has the power to rename the center. Trump had his name added to the building’s facade.

FIFA “Peace Prize”

In a comical charade, FIFA president Gianni Infantino presented Trump with a contrived “2025 FIFA Peace Prize.” Trump was so eager to receive the award, he put it on by himself like an eager, spoiled, bratty 3 year-old.

A cry for help

All this seems like a desperate cry for help. Trump is jealous of JFK, Barack Obama, María Corina Machado (winner of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize) and all the accolades rightfully praised upon them. It’s as if the world won’t praise Trump, it won’t be allowed to praise anyone. In response, he tears down, defaces, and decries things which the rest of the world holds dear. All of this, so Trump can bestow upon himself “honors” of which he will NEVER be worthy.

Stephen Miller also seems like someone in desperate need of counseling. According to people who knew him as a young man in Santa Monica, California, he has always held his racist beliefs [One can’t help but wonder if some young woman of color spurned a young Miller and turned him down for a date]. Now, he has been given the power needed to bring pain and suffering on many people. And he relishes that power.

We’re losing the fight

Miller is not the only Trump sycophant in the Oval Office. Pam Bondi, Kristi Noem, Robert F Kennedy Jr, and others, are allowing Trump and Miller to create a reality that does not reflect what “America” is supposed to represent.

We are the county that is supposed to fight against dictators and injustice. This time, however, the dictators are home-grown and we are losing the fight.
