California District 4 congressman Tom McClintock (R – Elk Grove) has mis-represented his constituents and his neighbors (they’re not the same) for many years now. But he has been consistent. Consistently wrong.

McClintock has in recent months voted against women, minorities and immigrants. A shameful trifecta. Yet we’d expect nothing less from the carpetbagger.

St Patrick’s day 2021 McClintock voted against women. He voted against Removing the deadline for the ratification of the equal rights amendment, and he voted against the Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021.

On March 18, 2021 he voted against the American Dream and Promise Act of 2021. This bill amends previous immigration laws to provide a path toward citizenship for DREAMers. But McClintock has no love for DREAMers. On February 6, 2018, McClintock’s response to a DREAMer’s plea for immigration help was to tell to go back to her own country.

That same day, McClintock voted against the Farm Workforce Modernization Act of 2021. This bill would create a system that recognizes the need for agricultural workers, most of whom are currently undocumented, and provides a mechanism to bridge this labor divide. Other nations have policies such as this in place to great effect. But McClintock seems to hate progress of any kind.

Most recently, McClintock stood against an “effort to study reparations for African Americans whose ancestors endured slavery.” This a bill to allow a study of this issue. Nothing is promised other than to study this issue.

The GOP seems to have become the party of ignorance. They have taken anti-science positions prima facie on everything from reproductive health to COVID 19. Since McClintock consistently puts the wishes of this party above the needs of his constituents his stance is to be expected.

The people of California’s 4th Congressional district have suffered long enough. They need a representative who will put their needs above his, or those of his party.

The 2020 census will lead to reapportionment followed by redistricting since California is expected to lose at least one congressional seat. With new lines being drawn, I hope McClintock finally chooses to represent his neighbors for a change.
