My brother Jorge Armando “Mando” Vera passed away today from blood clots related to COVID19. He was a much loved person and led a very complicated, interesting life.
This year, 2021, would normally be an “off” year. A year for planning, training, recruiting and getting ready for the 2022 campaign season. Looking back at 2021, history had other things in mind. What should have been a celebratory January, was instead one in which we saw just how fragile our democracy actually is.
I need a vacation. It’s been over a year that I’ve been working from home. You might think that a Work From Home situation would be just like a vacation. But you’d be wrong.

Regardless of the outcome, the work continues. We will still have people struggling to find a place to live. We will still have children in our communities who go to sleep hungry. We will still have people ostracized for the color of their skin or where they choose to worship. There will always more to do.
