[I had a poor seat on this evening, and I do not have many photos to share]
Breakfast
Tuesday morning started with daily credentialing and the Delegation breakfast. Not all delegations have this breakfast.
The highlight is the long list of speakers that stop by.
Tuesday , we heard from Governors Josh Shapiro, Gretchen Whitmer, and host J.B. Pritzker.
Convention Center
On the way to the morning’s sessions at the McCormick Center, I had a wonderful conversation about the role of journalists with a young reporter.
I visited the Demopalooza site at the convention center. I got some information about services useful to candidates and Democratic Central Committees. The site featured many local vendors.
I also met one of the many volunteers who are making this convention possible. This is a HUGE event that would not be possible without them.
Evening program
Next, I changed into my ‘fit and got ready for the events of the evening. I was able to find a seat at the back of the delegation, immediately under the teleprompter used by the speakers.
In the session at the United Center, we had the official roll call.
Without a doubt, the highlight of the evening were the speeches by Michelle and Barack Obama.
The most visceral reaction was when Michelle Obama wondered if Trump would still want to keep campaigning for a “black job.”
Barack Obama is a tremendous orator. He inspired a delegate in my row to shout out a heartfelt “we miss you” at one point.
Tuesday was a great day.
